April 8 , 2005 - rookery revisited


We just can't stay away from the rookery. Here, a couple of Great Blue Herons look on as an egret shows its stuff.


As promised previously, we'll concentrate on the egrets this time.


They're standing around, showing off...


...preening their fine new mating plumage...


...making themselves heard (the weird croaks and groans of the Rookery are half the fun)...


...and building nests...


...and building more nests...


...and looking good doing it.


I'll bet these egrets think they look mighty fine as they fly around, trailing their mating plumage. They'd be right about that.


OK, we can't entirely ignore the Great Blue Herons – they're un-ignorable!
