November 6 , 2003 - bird rescue 2

Once again we call upon the bird rescue talents of staffer Tricia Wilson – a bird has flown into the Visitor Center and is up in the skylight (see it in the corner?). We grab the extension ladder and send Tricia up with her trusty net.

Got it!

We take it outside and discover it's not just any bird – it's no less than a Red-breasted Sapsucker, shown here in profile...

...and here in affronted frontal view.

Off you go.

Strangely enough, just a few days later an Anna's Hummingbird flew into the VC, and once again it was Tricia that came to its rescue.

She then demonstrated the proper technique for netting a bird against a window. We're lucky to have Tricia here – and so are the birds.
