Farewell to Spring

07/14/03: If you've noticed a sudden explosion of pinkish magenta along the roadside, it might be the aptly named “Farewell-to-spring” (Clarkia rubicunda – the genus name is after Captain William Clark of the Lewis and Clark expedition). A small patch of this Clarkia sprang into blossom last week on the Reserve near the Education Lab.
