Earth Day Clean Up
5/1/08

In celebration of Earth Day 2008, the Elkhorn Slough Foundation participated in the 3rd Annual County Wide Clean Up Day on April 19th. More than 35 volunteers, many of them Elkhorn residents, came out to show their commitment for a clean, healthy community. During the course of the day this hearty group of volunteers cleaned up 35 tires, 3 computers, 2 TVs, an engine block, and 3 automobile bumpers. In total, we removed 3,600 pounds (1.8 tons) of trash.

Local Elkhorn Slough resident Margie Kay volunteered over 25 hours to make this clean up a success. “There is nothing more satisfying than spending a couple of hours making an immediate difference in the health of Elkhorn Slough and meeting up with neighbors either new or known.” She encourages everyone to participate in the Coastal Cleanup this September.

Our thanks go out to all of our volunteers as well as Margie Kay and those from Santa Cruz Surfrider. Together we are making Elkhorn Slough a thriving community with a healthy habitat.
